Green Singel: History of the Antwerp Ring Area
Editors Joeri De Bruyn and Maarten Van Acker have compiled a book that appeals to the collective memory of a city, and also flows from it. With its title and various subtitles, 'Groene Singel' clearly indicates what it stands for and which aspects are highlighted. The history of the Antwerp ring road, yes, but in addition to the purely architectural, with a chronological overview of detailed plans, the book also tells a human story. Special attention is paid to how Antwerp residents have experienced the ring road over time and still do. Everything is richly illustrated with old and new photo material. Sleek and stylishly designed but warm in content, 'Groene Singel' approaches its subject scientifically, and then again anecdotally.
This book is historical, but also very topical, because even today Antwerp is still making ambitious plans for its ring area...
