Anton van Duinkerken: a multifaceted person
In this collection, published on the occasion of his hundredth birthday, Anton van Duinkerken (pseudonym of WJMA Asselbergs) is brought to life. The collection opens with a biographical sketch from a developmental-psychological perspective. Then the following are discussed: the relationship between Van Duinkerken and Brabant, his vision of life (image of holiness and ideas about the art of living), Van Duinkerken as a man of letters (literary journalist at De Tijd, lover of Flemish literature and anthologist of Catholic poetry) and Van Duinkerken as a scholar (professor of Dutch and General Literature in Nijmegen). The setting in the contributions is formed by his life and his time. Because Van Duinkerken saw himself primarily as a poet and wrote poetry throughout his life, the contributions are forged together by a small selection from his poetry.
