Johan Museeuw can pride himself on being the most celebrated classic winner of the international peloton in the post-Merckx period. At the start of his last cycling spring, he had 11 World Cup triumphs. He conquered the hellish classic three times. But even more than this evocative stone race, his immense popularity remains linked to the Tour of Flanders, in which he also earned his nickname The Lion among his own people and supporters. 'Leeuw Museeuw' aims to be a memorial book about this champion, who rarely allowed the media to see into his heart and soul: 'You don't know the real Museeuw', he liked to remark. And indeed, insiders agree, there is a big difference between Museeuw on the bike and Museeuw in private. It's a good thing that his confidant Dirk Nachtergaele felt the need to portray that other Museeuw in an unpretentious chronicle, using carefully recorded notes.
