Oases: ground-force for a new spring

12,99 25,00

The title is inspired by the ideas of Hannah Arendt, namely the combination desert and oases. On the one hand, it is a metaphor: we live in a mental, monocultural desert, to which we should not adapt; hence the need for oases of creative and independent thinking and loving. On the other hand, it is a reality of, for example, soy deserts in Brazil, coupled with corn deserts in Europe. The author reports on his experiences in Brazil, always in relation to Europe and/or China. The soy desert on the other side of the ocean, in the service of our high meat consumption and meat export interests, is a symbol of a perverse globalization with many victims. At the same time, the author describes how oases of alternative agriculture and consumption can be globalized. Wervel tries to support these oases and connect them with each other. That is why Wervel also lets three Brazilians and two Belgians speak in the book.
