Broken smile

'I know,' Kaat admits. 'You can hardly see it anymore. But almost isn't enough, I want nothing to be seen at all. No one must suspect that I was born with a cleft lip.'
'No one will see it,' Mom answers. 'We all worked so hard on it, Dad and I, the doctors, you... I'm always amazed to see how you face the next operation with so much courage!'

Kaat is over the moon: she has just learned to chat and immediately makes a friend, Wannes. The two hit it off and Wannes soon wants to know what Kaat looks like. However, Kaat is too ashamed to put a photo online. She has a split lip and is very insecure about her appearance. Lien, Kaat's best friend, reassures her: after all the operations you can hardly see anything of it anymore. Still, Kaat would rather wait.
