Game Urbanism: Cultural Planning
Game Urbanism is about the culture of spatial planning. Hans Venhuizen interprets culture broadly as cultural history, heritage, architecture and art, but also as the current culture of the inhabitants of a region or the uniqueness of a place. In his quest for a more specific identity for cities and areas, Venhuizen connects the worlds of culture and space in various ways. The culture of spatial planning itself is central to this. The game is his most important instrument. In all of Venhuizen's projects, the relationship between game and seriousness plays a leading role. The game is able to involve participants in an assignment on an equal footing, makes complex situations clear, provides information about wishes and interests and also offers pleasure in uncertain change processes. This book, with case studies, context, methods and reflection, shows a fundamentally different way of looking at our spatial actions, in which culture takes a self-evident and guiding place.
