The Strange Adventures of Sa'eed the Pessoptimist

In 'The strange adventures of Sa'ied the Pessoptimist' the life of the entire Palestinian population in Israel is reflected in a short space of time. Through a recommendation from his father, Sa'ied becomes an informer for the Israeli secret service and, bumbling along, he manages to survive many dangers unscathed.

His stupidity is initially a shield against the power and arbitrariness of the authorities, but gradually he too finds himself trapped by repressive measures against the Palestinians - so much so that he sees no way out and has to be rescued by aliens.

Habiebi makes Sa'ied the classic anti-hero, who stands innocently in an incomprehensible world and thinks he can outsmart his environment. In the ridiculous situations in which Sa'ied ends up, he shows the absurdity of Palestinian reality with humor, irony and sarcasm.
