Goddess of the Cradle

During her travels for CUNINA, Sabine De Vos recorded the life stories of the children who made the greatest impression on her. The eight stories are based on conversations. The facts are partly true, partly fictional. The places where the stories take place are very different. The common thread through all the stories is always the strong personality of the main character. They are all street children who lead an existence that borders on the unimaginable for us. The children are champions in coming up with tricks and strategies to do what is most important to them every day: survive. The book takes us to the slums of Kinshasa, the catacombs of the football stadium in Rio, to Haiti, the Philippines and to the heart of the Amazon jungle. The book is excellently suited to work with in the classroom. In an often humorous and adventurous way, the readers get an image of peers who grow up in completely different circumstances. It immediately makes talking about development cooperation a lot more concrete. An explanation of the CUNINA project and a list of foreign words and names are included at the back of the book.
