After a failed operation, detective Elvira Selas is forced to end her career as an undercover agent. After a year off the radar in the Spanish sun, she returns to the Dutch police, where she can work in the Serious Crimes department as a last chance. Her first case is a mysterious double murder. The first victim is found without a tongue, the second is missing a little finger. An obituary with a Latin text is found at both crime scenes. Is the Netherlands in the grip of a serial killer? What the police force does not know is that Elvira's undercover time with a notorious drug cartel is not over yet. She suspects that her missing brother still has ties to this gang and is determined to find him. That is why she has to go back. Back to a past that she would have preferred to stay far away from.
