During a stormy night in 1941, the father of the young Jew Simon Kornreich is taken away from his home, villa Vinkenhof, by the Germans. During the deportation, there is hardly any resistance. After the other family members have left the house in a hurry, villa Vinkenhof becomes the headquarters of a German industrial magnate, the perfect place for parties for German officers. After the war, a Jewish organization moves into the house. They want to prepare people for their departure to Eretz Israel. Grebillach Spino is conceived in villa Vinkenhof. Grebillach is raised by the family of Simon Kornreich, who has become a successful Antwerp diamond trader in a city that is increasingly subject to right-wing movements. An extreme right-wing ex-fellow student of Kornreich is in charge there. Kornreich himself considers it an act of justice that he has now succeeded in regaining possession of villa Vinkenhof. When on
