The house with the ghosts
'The House of the Spirits' is a family chronicle that spans four generations from the beginning of this century to the 1970s, when the military dictatorship put an end to the socialist regime of Salvador Allende.
Four exceptional women revolve around the figure of Esteban Trueba, the tyrannical, lustful landowner. Rose the Fair, the nymph with the green hair, her sister Clara, the dreamy clairvoyant who can telekinetically move objects, and her daughter Blanca, who has a forbidden love for a left-wing protest singer, and to the great shame of the family becomes pregnant by him and gives birth to a daughter. This child, the girl Alba, will later write down the miraculous history of her family in a time of decay and terror, in order, as she says, 'to revive the past and overcome my own horror.'
