In 2009, Joost Vandecasteele roared his way into Flemish literature with the collection of stories How the world functions perfectly without me. The book stood out, won the Debut Prize and marked the birth of a writer who breaks away from tradition. In May 2012, this collection of stories also appeared in Spain, where Vandecasteele was called the `sensation of the season' and `the Flemish Bukowski'.
