Jill lives with her parents in Greenwood. She dreams of a free life, far away from the Seer family and their tyrannical rule. In her father's doctor's office, she works on her future and finds some happiness. When her native country Latana is attacked one day by Cerynese soldiers, who call themselves 'Hell Warriors', her fragile bubble of happiness bursts. Jill and her brother are called upon to defend their homeland, but the fight is in vain. Latana falls and all hell breaks loose. As the Hell Warriors start killing through the streets of Greenwood, Jill is brought to safety by her father. She is able to flee to the forest on board the Sabriëlle, but her parents and brother stay behind. Tormented by excruciating pain and hopelessness, Jill sees no way out. She decides to end her life. Sam, a fighter from the Freedom Pact, becomes her savior. On the deck of the Sabriëlle, both realize that only cooperation and trust in each other can provide a way out.
