Plan B: A political satire based on facts that have not yet actually happened
Spring 2009. The Vlaams Solidaristisch Blok, an extremist splinter group of the Vlaams Belang, is heading for an absolute majority in the Flemish elections. But the democratic parties falsify the election results and thus wipe the VSB off the map electorally. The social democrat Jack Manshouwer is allowed to lead the Flemish government, but the real power lies with his party chairman Bob Wijer. After the elections it is business as usual again, until the press reveals that the elections were manipulated.
The old regime collapses. Before Wijer can carry out his plan to place King Filip at the head of a government of national unity (under Wijer's control), the monarch dies in an accident. Time for Plan B. Actor Jef Conrad, wildly popular as Prime Minister Jos Bartels in the television series Wetstraat 16, is promoted to dictator following the Roman example, while Wijer still holds the reins. The coup becomes a grand television spectacle. But then fiction proves to be stronger than reality.
