Between lily and hydrogen bomb: the early years
Almost ten years ago, Ramsey Nasr, who until then had enjoyed fame as a young and up-and-coming actor, made his debut in poetry with the poetry collection 27 gedichten & geen lied. The collection was nominated for various prizes and Nasr made a great impression with his penetrating delivery. The successor that appeared three years later, Onhandigbloesem, showed a broad and matured sound. This collection, which was also awarded the Hugues C. Pernath Prize, was reprinted several times. As city poet of Antwerp, Nasr soon conquered the hearts of the Flemish. From the outset, it was his intention to write poems for an audience far beyond the city limits. This was once again evident with Onze-lieve-vrouwezeppelin (2006). Now that he was elected Poet of the Fatherland at the beginning of 2008, his first three collections will be published in one edition. A wonderful opportunity to get to know the poet of whom we will hear a lot in the coming four years.
