In the Wild West of a dusty country, 'Jay' of Nazareth travels from city to city at the head of a gang with twelve followers. On his journey, The Most Wanted Man in the West follows Judas - 'Jude' - one evening as he enters a brothel. There, Jay, a half-blood, meets the prostitute Maria 'Maggy' Magdalena. He falls head over heels for her. She doesn't notice him. That evening, he pays for another woman. But Maggy continues to pursue him, despite the advice of his mother Maria. He goes to see Maggy again, with all the violent and erotic consequences that entails. In this fast, fierce western full of violence and sex, written in a bone-dry hardboiled style, Jean Sagan paints a striking picture of an impossible and forbidden love, with all the ingredients of a passionate but fatal love story. A new look at the relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene, with a theme as old as the streets that remains burning topical: love. In the late fifties, a small French publisher published the scandalous novel Together We'll Sleep Before Dying: The Bloody Ballad of Jay-C & Maggy Magdalena. The author was a certain Jean Sagan, thirty years old, friend of Boris Vian and a tramp addicted to alcohol and sex. Due to the brutal violence and explicit sexuality, this roman noir became an instant gigantic success. More than a hundred thousand copies were sold. But ten years later, partly due to censorship, the book was no longer available. The unfortunate Sagan did not live to see it all. He died three weeks before publication; his body was fished out of the Seine. To this day, it is still not certain whether it was an accident or suicide. Crime author Bavo Dhooge was able to view the original manuscript and wrote his very first translation of a hardboiled crime novel that is actually a disguise for the most famous fatal love story that mankind has ever known. The oldest tale in town, but then Tarantino-style!
