Josep Gray is the richest man in the world. He is also extremely eccentric. That is all the brilliant young psychologist Laura Aldridge knows about him. When Gray asks her to work for him for one week, for a fee of 1 million dollars, she is extremely curious. On a remote island somewhere in the South Pacific, deep underground, lies Gray's latest invention: the world's first neurocomputer. It is a gigantic, glittering superbrain, resting in a giant pool of liquid nitrogen. This largest network in the world is not digital but analog. It can think and feel, see and hear, and has become - almost too humanly - dangerously depressed... Laura discovers to her amazement that the computer has developed an identity all its own and has created a three-dimensional world for itself. There - in cyberspace - a revealing encounter takes place between Laura and the superbrain....
