"Primeurs" collects the first youth stories by eleven well-known authors 'for adults'. They were written especially for this book; a number of them appeared in pre-publication in various newspapers. The stories are age-transcending: both adults and young readers will enjoy them. In De eend en God van Alstein, two sisters have a philosophical conversation. Herman Brusselmans starts with 'Jonas thought thirteen was a wonderful age to die'. This immediately sets the tone for a poignant story full of black humour. Jef Geeraerts is also equally poignant, who sheds light on the loneliness of a boy in an interior monologue. A moving account of an illness, sensitive but free from sentimentality, is Juul by Rudi Hermans. Luc Hanegreefs wrote a blood-curdling boy's story about two rivals. With Ik en tante Jen by Geert van Istendael you can giggle heartily and Het wonder by Guido van Heulendonk is a tiny but beautiful gem, a 'snapshot' so
