Hannes Jensen, a former police inspector in Bruges, has made a mistake. During a seminar in Iceland, he slept with a woman he barely knows. When he returns to his partner Annick in Bruges, the marks from that night are still visible on his neck: the woman bit him and the bite has become infected. He does not want to confess the mistake to Annick, because that could jeopardize their relationship. Moreover, she currently has other problems on her mind, because things are not going well with her best friend. An African fortune teller has predicted that her daughter will be murdered by a man with a scar on his neck. Jensen, a passionate amateur quantum physicist, does not believe in fate. According to him, life consists of a series of coincidences; nothing is predetermined. But the events of the following days turn his worldview upside down. It seems as if the fortune teller is right with his prediction. The more Jensen resists the fateful complications he is faced with, the less he can escape them.
