The flight
A boy hides in an olive grove. He hears that the men of the village are looking for him and crawls even deeper into his hiding place. When the voices die away, he is completely alone. An endless, barren plain lies before him that he must cross, braving the scorching heat, hunger and thirst. In the middle of the night he arrives exhausted at the campfire of an old goatherd. There, under the stars, an unspoken friendship is forged that will prove to be of vital importance to both of them. The Flight is a crushing debut, an emotional tour de force. A novel that is as hard and realistic as it is poetic and sensual – you feel the heat of the sun and you hear the crickets in the night. Jesús Carrasco tells the story of a closed world, where morality has been washed away like the water. Against this background, the boy, still innocent, is given the chance to learn to judge good and evil. Or will he remain branded by the violence with which he grew up?
