The angel with the saw
Antwerp, circa 1850. The gruesome murder of a young prostitute is only the beginning of a series of blood-curdling crimes against the residents of the famous red-light district on the Riedijk in Antwerp. Deputy Commissioner Sipido and Inspector Pécher throw themselves into a wild chase, but the serial killer who calls himself “the Angel” is always too fast for them. He always leaves his victims behind in the same way: mutilated by a sawn-off foot.
The enterprising police duo ends up in an inextricable tangle of criminal sewer traffic, scandalous (child) prostitution and other shady business. The 19th century Scheldt city forms the grey backdrop, with its rampant prostitution, colourful artists' milieu and dark alleys that hide many a secret. Even the city council appears not to be so careful with the truth...
