Cotton Malone's quiet life as an antiquarian book dealer is thrown into disarray when his former girlfriend Stephanie is the victim of a violent theft. The thief had targeted the diary of her ex-husband, who spent many years researching the lost treasures of the Templars, which are said to include the bones of the body of Jesus. Cotton and his girlfriend decide to continue the search. Mysterious clues lead them to a ruined church in the inhospitable Pyrenees, but they have long been overcome by the ominous feeling that they are not the only ones hunting for the long-lost legacy of the Templars.
