The wrong color
According to his own plans, he should have been a minister by this age. Yet Huib Jansen has been stuck in provincial politics for many years. He becomes convinced that he is not getting a fair chance, because his party focuses more on diversity. In order to turn the tide, Huib moves with his 'first lady' Marijke from the Randstad to Zeeland. There, the ideal candidates for his party are not easy to find, so he has a last chance to stand out. However, in the Zeeland faction, he is joined by Nigisti Yohannes, a young black woman who entered politics out of love for the Netherlands. The daughter of Eritrean refugees quickly becomes popular within the party with her story. For Huib, the Binnenhof seems further away than ever, but he does not simply accept that. Ambition, populism and identity politics tumble over each other in the new novel by Roelof Smit.
The Wrong Color is a topical political novel that captures the spirit of the times in painful recognizability.
