Morning star

Antwerp, Zurenborg, 1904. Anna persuades her German lover Heinz to build a house in the Cogels-Osylei. Architect Jos Bascourt is given the assignment. The two men work together on the art nouveau house, which is soon named Morgenster. The lives of the three men meander between the graceful curls and ornaments that are gradually taking shape: Jos, who is increasingly beginning to feel for Anna, Heinz, who continues to commute between Antwerp and his hometown of Hamburg, and Anna, who, as a woman, is trying to find her way in a world that is still dominated by men. Against the background of the belle époque, the breeding ground of the world as we know it, Dirk Van Boxem tells a story of personal emancipation and social liberation in Morgenster, and of the eternal struggle for love. Dirk Van Boxem (1966) was and is an IT manager, consultant, program director, change manager and coach. He published stories in De Brakke Hond, poems in Het Gezeefde Gedicht, and keeps a blog with Bijgekleurd. Morgenster is his debut.
