Summer 1914. Marie Claes thinks she is going on holiday to Glasgow with her parents. A few months later, the First World War is raging and thousands of Belgian refugees arrive in Glasgow.
The warm welcome they initially receive gradually turns into incomprehension and impatience. Some people in the Belgian community exploit the misery of their fellow countrymen. When Marie wants to expose the injustice, she risks becoming the victim of a power struggle at the highest level.
Annelies Beck (Aalst, 1973) is a VRT journalist and presented the TV news magazines Terzake and De Zevende Dag and various election programs for the Flemish public broadcaster. She currently presents the daily news program on Radio 1 and makes reports for Terzake.
