Passion and Profession: the history of the Dutch Film and Television Academy
The Dutch Film and Television Academy has always been a footnote in the historiography of Dutch film. Nevertheless, the academy has had an undeniable influence on the development of the national film climate. If only because many who work in film or television in our country were formed within the walls of the film academy.
In 1958 the program started as the Netherlands Film Academy. The first students included Frans Weisz and Rob du Mée, and the nineties included lan Kerkhof and Lodewijk Crijns. The first students were inspired by the Nouvelle Vague and cinéma-vérité, the last students by the Nouvelle Violence and the fictional documentary.
The Netherlands Film and Television Academy has a history full of passion and realism, and it has happened more than once that these two moods came into violent conflict with each other. In this publication, historical lines are tied together and analyzed, but anecdotes are not avoided either. In this way, not only insight is provided into the significance of the academy, but also a look behind the scenes of an education that has produced many generations of film and television makers.
This book also includes a list of all the students who have studied at the Netherlands Film and Television Academy over the years.
