Davidsfonds and KBS commissioned Jan Vanriet to create a cycle of paintings for a new book of the Bible, The Testaments. How topical does the Bible become when an artist loses himself in it? Vanriet has translated the message of the Old and New Testaments into over 80 suggestive paintings. In doing so, he combines historical awareness with a strong contemporary emotion. The Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp will exhibit a selection of the preliminary studies and drawings for the Testaments from 22 October 2005 to 31 January 2006. The book 'Testamenta-voorbereidend werk' shows these drawings and watercolours that Vanriet made in preparation for the Bible cycle.
