WHAT IF STAYING ON THE SIDE IS NOT AN OPTION? Alex Berger, a somewhat unusual private detective, was a commissioner in the Brussels Murder case in a previous life. At the age of forty-five, he decided to throw his past overboard and has recently been living in seclusion in Ostend. Alex is not really unhappy there: he often looks at the sea and talks more to the seagulls than to people. In London, Roisin Benting, twenty-one and in the prime of her life, is strangled in her loft in cold blood. The murderer leaves a souvenir on her stomach: a snow globe with a miniature of the Atomium inside. When Sara, one of the few people for whom Alex still has room in his life, is saddled with this inexplicable murder at Interpol, she calls on the help of her ex-boss and bosom friend. A second victim falls, this time in Flanders, and the Bonard family comes into the picture: a filthy rich shipping family headed by the mysterious David Bonard, a man who allows no one near him and of whom no one knows anything. Alex Berger promises his girlfriend to do some research behind the scenes. Then something strange happens: he receives a personal message from David Bonard, an invitation to stay in his mythical country house on Lake Lugano. Suddenly, staying on the sidelines is no longer an option…
