After the dark days, spring begins with an occasional ray of sunshine. Spring is also usually accompanied by new resolutions. Because after spring comes summer and then it's vacation. And we all want to look good on vacation!
Those extra pounds
During the winter days we are already less outside and less active. on top of that you are inclined to snack more than usual during those gloomy days. Now tell me: what is nicer than sitting cozy on the couch with a blanket to keep you warm and in one hand a hot cup of coffee or tea and in the other hand a cookie or a chocolate waffle. And I forgot the Christmas dinner and the delicious wine that goes with it.
So, January is the start of a new year and we are making a plan to start shedding those pounds by March at the latest.
Why am I not losing weight
You start with good courage. You watch your food and buy low-calorie or light products. You also sign up for start to run or you start yourself. But the results are disappointing. You really want to lose weight but you can't do it the way you want to. You are disappointed and give up.
The reasons
There are a number of reasons why someone does not lose weight.
- You lose weight without realizing it. When you exercise you lose fat, but you first build heavier muscles. After a few weeks (2 to 3) you will see that you are losing weight
- Medication can also play a role. Some mediators can play a role here: antidepressants, birth control pills, insulin injections, rheumatoid drugs, thyroid medication. These medications can disrupt your hormones, making it impossible to lose weight.
- You don't have a physical challenge. It is always better to start in a group or at least with 2. Because motivation is important for physical efforts and if you try it on your own, a rainy day can make you decide not to go for once. And that is not the intention.
- You think you eat and drink healthy. It is easy to grab light products in the supermarket. But are they good and even healthy? If you really want to eat low in calories and still healthy, then fortunately there are books that can help you on your way.
- Too little sleep and stress. Top athletes always take a good stress-free nap after their training.
- You have unrealistic expectations. You look at the pictures on the light products of people who have lost weight spectacularly and you want this too. Set realistic goals and you will see that this will give you more satisfaction.

Every year I have 2 months (February and November) where I don't drink alcohol for the entire month and I lose between 1.5 and 2kg each time during those months.
