The Story of a Girl Who Survived Nazi Experiments Rita Winterstein was one of a set of twins. Her mother was allowed to keep her daughters on the condition that the Nazis would be allowed to experiment on them. Her sister died, but Rita survived and now tells her story for the first time... 1943. Rita and Rolanda are born into a gypsy family. The Nazis immediately use them as guinea pigs for medical experiments on twins. Rolanda dies after an operation that should have given her blue eyes. Rita survives, but is scarred for life. The perpetrators of the experiments are barely punished. After a bitter struggle, Rita finally receives compensation 43 years later - as one of the last survivors. Today, however, she is still the victim of hatred against gypsies. Rita is so disappointed that she decides to leave Germany, and begs the Chancellor never to forget the past.
