A Missed Opportunity to Remain Silent: The Antwerp Press in 1886

125 years ago, in 1885-1886, the Union of Belgian Press was founded on the initiative of Antwerp journalist Arthur Goemaere. An Antwerp branch was soon established. Aad Van Maanen, former board member of the Antwerp branch, has researched the Antwerp press from that time. He describes what the Antwerp newspapers and weeklies looked like in 1886, what they wrote about and how. He also briefly outlines a number of prominent journalists from that period.
