Misled: Under the Spell of a Con Artist
Misled is the autobiographical story of Sarah Smith, whose life was manipulated for years by a psychopath.
In 1993, an attack claimed by the IRA takes place near Sarah's local pub. Sarah and her friends react with fear and confusion; they had never imagined that they would experience a bomb attack in their own, safe environment.
After the attack, the bartender of their local pub, Robert Freegard, reveals that he is an undercover agent and may have been the target of the attack. Because Sarah and her friends spend a lot of time with him, they are now also in danger. Freegard convinces them to go into hiding with him, after which he quickly develops into a shrewd and charming manipulator.
For Sarah, this marks the beginning of years of fear, isolation and changing identities, during which she is completely brainwashed
