Concerto
The story of a legendary record store
As a twenty-year-old boy, Ewoud Kieft started working in one of the oldest record stores in the Netherlands: Concerto in Amsterdam. Founded in 1955, Concerto has remained a magnet for music lovers throughout the decades. In the seven years that Kieft worked there, a colorful procession passed his counter: from jazz collectors to punks, from folk purists to hip-hoppers, from metalheads to opera connoisseurs, and from soul lovers to techno DJs. After twenty years, Kieft sought them out again to record their life stories. Concerto is a lively history of music, written with humor and empathy, which takes the reader along as if in a time machine to all those moments when music changed lives, offered comfort and hope, opened up new worlds and unleashed revolutions.
