Jan and Marie are a happy and close couple. However, life on the farm does not look very rosy, because the smaller farms are losing out to the emerging automation, which only gentlemen farmers can afford. On the golden horizon lies the land of milk and honey, namely America. When Jan gets the chance to work as an engineer in America, he accepts the offer. Marie will later travel to follow him. But manipulation and ignorance ensure that their love is in danger of being destroyed by the distance.
