Kompany and the golden generation
Frank Raes, the TV face of Extra Time, has been writing football columns for Het Nieuwsblad and De Standaard for many years. This new collection contains both the dreams of this eternal football romantic and the sharp observations of an ironic journalist. He paints very personal portraits of Messi, Lukaku, Hazard, De Bruyne, Cech, Courtois, Lestienne, Dembele, Guardiola and Gerets, but also of some greats of yesteryear such as Maradona, Rivelino, Socrates, Vic Mees, Karl Kodat and Fons Bastijns.
In Kompany and the Golden Generation, current, sometimes painful subjects are also discussed: the decline of Antwerp football, the exit of number 13 and Antwerp Pope Eddy Wauters, the success of Belgian footballers abroad, the new order in the management of Club Brugge and the ongoing battle of Anderlecht to remain the number 1 in Belgian football. Memorable matches from the past are brought back to life and of course the national desire for the World Cup in Brazil is not left undiscussed.
