Roots: or the time called waiting
Ries is a hill-keeper. He is always on his hill and never leaves. That is just the way it is. Every day he waits for something. Something that never comes. One morning he finds a seed on the threshold of his front door. Ries puts it in the ground, on top of his hill.
Ries waits. Curious. Patiently. With his nose to the ground. Because there is time, a lot of time. Until suddenly, out of nowhere, Kerel is there. From then on, Ries and Kerel have to share everything: the hill, time, air, silence… and especially time.
Bologna Ragazzi Award winner Klaas Verplancke tells and illustrates the special friendship between Ries and Kerel. An extraordinary, timeless story that he likes to share with his readers. About loneliness, connectedness, identity, communication and farewell.
