The baker's daughter
Germany, 1945. The worst of the wartime terror has passed young Elsie by. She and her family are protected by a high-ranking Nazi who wants to marry her. But when an escaped Jewish boy shows up on her doorstep on Christmas night, Elsie knows she is putting everything she loves in jeopardy if she opens the door of the bakery for him. El Paso, Texas, sixty years later. Journalist Reba Adams is working on a Christmas article for the local paper and interviews Elsie, the elderly owner of a bakery on the other side of town. Elsie struggles to share her story. Reba's questions are a nasty reminder of a dark past: her life in Germany during the war years. As the lives of these two women become increasingly intertwined, they are forced to face uncomfortable truths from the past and find the courage to forgive.
