Bass

Marcel is the only one in the Lijsterman family who is not a member of the village band. He detests the blaring music and the clumsy majorettes. The boy wants to escape his environment, but he also feels bound by a strong sense of solidarity. His work with 'antique dealer', jazz lover and charmer Freddy brings Marcel into contact with the world of jazz and love. When he is given an old double bass, his struggle to penetrate the soul of the instrument and thereby gain access to another life begins. It intensifies his difficult relationship with his natural father and his adoration for his musical father: John Coltrane.
