Who flees and who stays

Lila and Elena, the two girls we first met in My Brilliant Friend, are now grown women. Lila, who married and had a child at sixteen, has left her husband, home and life of luxury and works in a factory to make ends meet. Elena has finished university and written a successful novel. For her, the doors are open to another world, far away from the Neapolitan neighborhood where she grew up.

Both women fight against what the world expects of them: resignation to motherhood, ignorance and submission. They search for their way in the freedoms and opportunities that the seventies seem to offer. However different their quests are, their lives remain connected by a strong, unbreakable bond.
