Writing is connecting: meeting Jan Cox in De Vlaamse Gids
In the period 1948-1980, Jan Cox regularly published texts in De Vlaamse Gids, the bimonthly cultural magazine with leading articles on art and literature, which was published between 1905 and 2000. In his texts, Jan Cox wrote about personal artistry, paid attention to prevailing art trends and gave general socio-cultural considerations.
The Liberal Archive, the Friends of Galerie De Zwarte Panter and the Friends of the M HKA have bundled these texts in the present publication, which is conceived as a diptych. The first part, Writing is connecting, contains the texts of Jan Cox. In the second part, Reading is moving, em. prof. dr. Claire Van Damme reflects on these artist's writings. Based on new and unique source material, she attempts to fathom Jan Cox as an art critic, artistic reporter, opinion writer and human being.
