My Life
Few people have exposed themselves to so many dangers in their long lives and nearly died so often on adventurous journeys as Heinrich Harrer. In his fascinating autobiography, he also tells extensively for the first time about his lesser-known expeditions. After his seven-year stay in Tibet, he traveled to New Giunea, Africa, South America and Alaska, among other places. He was also the first to conquer one of the most dangerous Alpine peaks, the Eiger.
Heinrich Harrer (1912) initially became known as a skier and mountaineer, after which he had a successful career as a writer. His memories of his years in Lhasa, Seven Years in Tibet, were translated into more than fifty languages and adapted into a successful film. The White Spider, his book about climbing the Eiger, is considered a classic travel book.
