When Mem Bats dies at the age of ninety-six,
everyone thinks of a natural death. Everyone, except
Anne Brems. As a permanent nurse of Mem, she feels that there
things don't add up. How on earth could the old woman
without her walker from her bed to the kitchen and
then got to the chair in the living room? And
where are her paintings of the cow and the goat she once
received from her boss for services rendered?
Anne pours out her heart to Geo Joosten and Piet Schraepen,
two journalists at the local newspaper. What starts as a
small inquiry at the Society of which Mem is a member
quickly turns into a mysterious case surrounding
drug scandals and art fraud. Especially her dubious son
Toon and his adulterous wife Eva seem to know more than
they want to admit...
