Unmasked

The young Joris Mareel sits alone in a café in Blankenberge, watching the cheerful carnival bustle around him. He does not actively participate in the cheering and the festivities, because he actually has no friends. He dreams of beautiful girls, but he has never had a chance with the opposite sex. While he ponders his unenviable fate, he catches a glimpse of Katja, the most beautiful girl in the seaside town. She beckons him and as if in a dream he follows her outside. There she reveals a terrible secret about his origins, which completely upsets Joris. The next morning the lifeless body of the beautiful young woman is found.
