Antwerp, international port icon: a vision of Antwerp's identity as a port city

Antwerp is a dormant port icon of world class.
The port is the fourth in the world, and the city has an exceptional port-related cultural-historical wealth. However, the international image of Antwerp as a port city is limited. Hamburg, Liverpool, Marseille and Rotterdam cultivate their port city image much more strongly.
This richly illustrated book develops a strategy to bring the port of Antwerp closer to the population and to profile Antwerp as the world capital of port culture. It contains two hundred and fifty ambitious proposals on culture, urban development, tourism, city marketing and port management. They range from the reactivation of the Scheldt quays for maritime shipping, the establishment of a World Port Museum and an International Port Art Museum to the restoration of the Doel cog and the construction of a cruise terminal in Lillo.
