Rani was adopted after her birth. Now that she is thirteen, she travels with her adoptive parents to India, her native country, in search of her brothers Palin and Sabal, and in the hope of finally finding out more about her biological mother.
The contrast between the country where she grew up and India is enormous. The hustle and bustle, the smells, the colours: everything overwhelms her. It feels strange to suddenly be a normal Indian girl, among all the Indian people. Does she belong here?
