Bastard: In a Dark Land

In a dark country, with mountains and forests. In a time of caravans pulled by farm horses, with candles burning in the evening and drinking water, brown and cloudy, hoisted up from a well in a wooden bucket.

I grow up in the circus. He can’t remember how he got there, who his father or mother is. I’m there now, that’s all he knows. Mister October, the circus director, takes me under his wing. The others, the acrobats, clowns and contortionists, don’t like me. I’m a scab, a weirdo, they say.

When one day a dwarf appears, the balance of power in the circus shifts. Mister October sits frozen in his caravan and the dwarf calls the shots. He snorts and roars and terrorizes the group. He also introduces a new act: the young woman from the forest. She looks like a goddess, but is she?

When I rebel against the tyranny of the dwarf, he is banished. I travel to Paname, the capital of the country, where he enters the circles of prominent gentlemen and elegant ladies thanks to his divine music. I change, his nature becomes dark. I make my way through history, following the red haze of war, uprisings, destruction and crime. Until the young woman from the forest crosses his path again...
