The world of Thomas and Elke: a search for Christian identity
Commissioned by the Interdiocesan Pastoral Council (IPB), Marcel Verhelst wrote this book as a processing of the consultation that the General Assembly devoted to Christian identity today in the working year 1996-1997. It was not to be a catechism and it was also not to be a book that contained what everyone already knew, such as the Christian confession of faith or church practices. The author took up the challenge to describe in the form of a story the quest of contemporary (young) people, in which the reader can recognize himself. The intention was not to deal exhaustively with current theology or the controversial issues within the Church, but to provide an acceptable picture of the self-understanding of Christians in this time. In fifteen short chapters he evokes the main aspects of the Christian faith and the way in which believers can deal with them at the beginning of the third millennium.
