The Daens case

Pieter Daens, a brilliant mind. Fickle and often inscrutable. Entered the Jesuits, left, re-entered… After a number of failures as a priest, he ends up in Aalst with his brother Pieter Daens. And then he is swept up in a whirlpool of events: he sees the colorless poverty of the workers and the well-intentioned but totally outdated paternalism of the Church. He gets involved in the Christian Democracy that is heading towards the formation of its own party in the region of Aalst. Unexpectedly, Daens turns out to be very popular and he expects a place in parliament. The fight begins…
