The Public Prosecution Service in error: 100 structural mistakes
Everyone makes mistakes, but at the Public Prosecution Service (OM)
there is more to it. Prosecutors make a surprising number of mistakes,
especially in murder cases. In this book Ton Derksen, known for the
controversial book Lucia de B. Reconstruction of a miscarriage of justice,
the most common mistakes.
Derksen analyses the actions of the Public Prosecution Service in the Schiedammer Park murder, the Lucia de B. case, the Sweeney case, the Henk H. case and the Deventer murder case. He notes seven mega-deficiencies: the Public Prosecution Service tells untruths, withholds information, randomly collects facts, makes crucial errors in argumentation, is not open to criticism and is often guided by the Magic Eye: the conviction that one has already 'seen' the truth before it is established. These errors raise serious doubts about the correctness of the
convictions.
Ton Derksen is a professor of philosophy of science. He has published several books, including Lucia de B. Reconstruction of a judicial error. Following this controversial book, the Postumus II committee concluded that major errors were made in the trial against Lucia de B.
