Imke Dielen: a story written at the beginning of 'own'
Imke Dielen tweets, blogs, facebooks and myspaces daily. But who is Imke Dielen actually?
Imke Dielen is Helena Van Eykeren, a girl of 25, but also a woman of 25. She struggles through life like most girls of that age, looking for a career, a roof over her head, the love of her life, the perfect Saturday night on the dance floor, the ultimate road trip with a friend through California... At the same time, Imke Dielen is not Helena Van Eykeren at all, the name on the passport of the girl who blogs and tweets and facebooks and myspaces daily on a MacBook about the world in which she is becoming a woman. Imke Dielen is a character, created by Helena Van Eykeren, an ambitious young lady who entered the blogosphere barely 2.5 years ago and has since become a household name. Something like a phenomenon. Out of fear of cold water, Helena wrote her first blog posts under the name Imke Dielen. Nice pieces about the world of a girl who became a friend after a while. Especially since the boom of Twitter, where she uses a few well-chosen words to get rid of the morning mood of her more than a thousand followers. But tweets and blog posts are short, direct impressions. Nice but fleeting. You always remain a little hungry, do you really want to know who Imke Dielen is, what she does, what she wears, what she likes, who she likes to see... Until now. Because what does a 25-year-old girl do who has thrown half of her life online but actually wants to get rid of much more? Write a book. A book may not be the natural habitat of one of the first icons of the internet generation, but you can read better and more calmly in it than on blogs why Imke Dielen likes to talk openly about sex these days, what kind of men make her melt, why she would like to drive a Ford Mustang or a Land Rover Defender and what that actually is: doing an Imke Dielen. A book for everyone who wants to know who Imke Dielen actually is. Or thinks she is.
